THE COLORS OF AUSTRALIA
Hopkins Opal specializes in Lightning Ridge opals, renowned for their unparalleled beauty and rarity. Enigmatic black opals and luminous crystal opals are unearthed in Lightning Ridge, NSW – a remote mining region celebrated for producing the world's most coveted and valuable opal varieties. Our offerings extend beyond mesmerizing Lightning Ridge opals, encompassing an extensive selection of Queensland boulder opals – another unique and magnificent Australian gemstone variety, as well as South Australian crystal and light opal varieties – which have solidified Australia's opal gemstone mining reputation since its inception.

We are committed to maintaining this reputation with our dedication to traceability, which allows us to provide you with a comprehensive narrative behind each precious opal in our collection. Transparency regarding the origin, mining practices, and artisanal craftsmanship involved in the opals we offer, ensures that you can make informed decisions with peace of mind when choosing our gemstones. The Australian opal mining community has long been a beacon of responsible mining practices within the gemstone industry and we proudly carry that torch for future opal miners and talented jewelers.
ETHICAL GEMSTONE SOURCING
We diligently adhere to responsible sourcing guidelines, are accredited as Ethical Members of the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), as well as long-standing members of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA), which upholds a strict code of ethics. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond compliance, with our belief that a holistic approach to the opal industry and its supply chain is essential for fostering better futures and livelihoods for miners, local communities, and the mines themselves. By embracing sustainable practices, we contribute to the preservation of our natural resources and the well-being of all communities involved. We have deep appreciation for the artisanal excellence and rich heritage of the Australian opal mining community and take pride in supporting a cottage industry of small, family-owned opal businesses that have mastered the art of responsible gemstone mining and cutting over generations.
